It's not like a puzzle. Not really. It's more like a paint by number. Cause everything is there. And when it's almost finished you stare at it and you go This does not look right. I mean, I think I know what that is, but it does not look right. And you can hang it up or whatever but still, off. Until someone walks into your house, your very own house, and points out that you forgot to fill in all the spots with an R in them. You're so silly, how could you paint that whole picture and hang it up and admire it and not realize that you left out the red? Every single space, empty. It really is only one color, so you don't think that it will make that big a difference. Just that one little thing.

Except that once someone points out this massive omission, you can't not fill them in, you know, finish it. Cause you can't have a half finished picture hanging on your wall, that would just look stupid. And then you would feel stupid, and you would be stupid, and you would wonder how many people had come and gone and looked at that painting and wondered how it was that you could hang something so sloppy and not even care. Even the person that gave it to you, they don't point it out, they just let you leave it there, advertising your ignorance to the entire universe. The entire universe that happens to pass through your door. Finish the damn painting, girl.

So, red. Touch it up. Fill in the spots, it's really only one small thing. It will not make the picture that different. Except that it does, of course. It makes everything different. It brings the picture together. That rug, you know, it really...but things look different. Things are accented. Things stand out that did not previously. The tone is different. This picture that you liked, that you framed and hung on your damn wall, is not what you thought it was. And even if it looks fine now, all finished and done and drying and taking up space and time that you really do not have, even if it looks the way it should and it makes more sense and no one can say, any longer, that you are in the dark and completely stupid about what it's a picture of, maybe you don't even like the picture. Maybe you liked the blank spots more. Maybe you would rather stare at a blank wall than set your eyes on that picture one more time. Maybe you should give it back to the person that gave it to you and make it clear to him that you really don't want his pictures, thank you very much, and that next time he can give them to someone that actually needs them, because you only have so much space on your wall and if he's going to give shit to you then he better fucking tell you if it isn't finished.
